The year 2020 was like no other. Influenced by uncertainties, we have all reached our limits. Professional and private life changed from one day to the next. In many areas there was and is a need to rethink, both as a society and as individuals. The Corona pandemic has also brought about a sudden change in the way we experience art. Art events have been cancelled, encounters between artists and interested parties are still only possible to a limited extent, contact has been reduced to a minimum. The media provide a remedy. Virtual exhibitions, video announcements and interviews on streaming help to maintain contact and take the encounter with art to another level. But with all these new possibilities it becomes clear: art cannot only take place online. To see a work of art in its original form, to be able to look closely at it, to grasp every detail and to feel its effect in a space-consuming way – that cannot replace the media world.
But what to do? Acquiring a work of art to bring home the enjoyment of art is something that many people do not think about by working short time or even losing their jobs. The exhibition Affordable Anna25 aims to precisely build this bridge: to make art tangible again by bringing it home. To bring joy with art, be it as a Christmas present for a loved one or as a purchase for oneself – and all this in a framework that is affordable. The exhibition brings together eight gallery artists and their works, which range in price from 50 to 2000 euros, thus making them accessible to a wider public.
Maybe now is the right time to invest in art? Now, when it gets uncomfortable outside, when we have to spend a lot of time in our own four walls again due to contact restrictions and home office, art can make a big difference. Art enhances our wellbeing, stimulates our imagination, and can help keep the dreariness of the grey days at bay. So it is time to do something good for ourselves and others.
What would our home be without our little treasures, the personal objects that reflect our personality? Every person is a collector in some way. We collect things that make them happy. With works by selected artists, a home can be enhanced in many different ways. Art can be many things: a value investment, a purely decorative decision, or a kind of relationship between buyer and work. Everything has its justification and yet some works of art have a particularly high potential to make us happy. But how do you find the right work? Lovers of large-format paintings, such as those we see in Bernhard Paul‘s work, of black-and-white photographs such as those by Thomas Nitz, or delicate small formats such as those by Kejoo Park often know exactly what they want. Sometimes, however, it is simply chance findings that are inspiring. The works in which a spark is ignited between the viewer and the work make it clear: this must be it! As so often with art, it is the gut feeling that counts. Whenever it “clicks”, you are on the right track to feel a long-lasting pleasure in a work of art. In our society, art is not only systemically relevant, but it also simply makes us happy.
And do not forget Christmas is just around the corner! If you want to give your loved ones something that is more than just a nice gesture, a work of art is just the right thing to do. Let us inspire you!
