CLOESED DUE TO ILLNESS
Opening: April 19th, 6 – 9 pm
Exhibition duration: April 20th – May 31st
Reality is subjective and shaped by individual life experiences,
societal norms, and conventions. The more diverse these influences
are, the more varied the understanding of the world becomes. In the
exhibition “Terence Carr – My Reality III,” artist Terence
Carr presents a glimpse into his personal perception of reality,
shaped by his eventful life.
Born in Kenya, Carr leaves Africa to pursue a military career in
the British Army. However, after being stationed in Germany, he
decides to leave the military and study art education in Augsburg,
subsequently embarking on his path as a freelance artist.
Carr primarily works sculpturally with chainsaws and wood, with
the traces of the chainsaw blade on the finished sculptures clearly
demonstrating his artistic process. Surprisingly, despite this rustic
approach, Carr’s work often consists of an extremely intricate
ensemble of various elements, objects, and figures, meticulously
painted. He imparts a clear and often intense color scheme to the
individual figurative elements of his sculptures, supplemented by
drawn details when necessary. Additionally, Carr extends his approach
to creating reliefs on walls.
His body of work fascinatingly merges the various stages of the
artist’s life. African and Western European influences are equally
evident in his artworks. Beneath vibrant layers of paint, he
encapsulates serious themes, sometimes subtly and symbolically, other
times directly and immediately, always with a wild and expressive
touch.
